Tortilla, Festival City

Mexican, Thai and Indian – I can have any day and any time. Therefore I am on a constant look out for some bomb nachos or dal makhni and anything in between. Does Tortilla full fill my never ending greed for Mexican cuisine?

You can find Tortilla at Dubai Festival City on the food court level. It is a very cute little spot and I went along with two of my other friends and we ended up sitting in a cutesy corner with comfy seatings.

What we had;

Nachos Queso [26AED]: These were very generic nacho chips topped with generous serving of cheese sauce, pico de gallo, guac and jalapenos. Their cheese was decent. There was no WOW! factor in them. I bit pricy for the kind of flavour and dish they put out on the table for you. [3/5]

Quesadilla [30AED]: Meh. This dish failed to impress me. I am a die hard fan of Quesadillas! Without these and nachos, have you really had Mexican though? But this dish was SO average.. I was getting highly disappointed. This dish comprises of toasted tortilla with the choice of the meat you prefer, cheese and pico de gallo. On the side you are served wth some salsa and some sour cream. I must admit though, the last time I had Mexican food at this ‘xyz’ joint in India, their Quesadilla was soaked in oil and these were not. This is what I liked about these Quesadilla, that they were excessively oily, they were well put together and not a ‘hot’ mess. However, the basic flavours were lacking. Had this dish tasted good, I would not have mind paying 30 dhs for it, but sadly I did not like my chicken Quesadillas. [2.3/5]

Burritos [M – 26AED]: By this time we had actually given up on this resto. I really wanted to like something.. anything. The Burrito was huge and my friend was unable to finish the whole thing. Flour tortillas filled with your choice of meat, rice, beans, vegetables, salsa and cheese / sour cream. Again, this dish was lacking the basic flavours and just did not do well with us. It was just as mediocre as the Chicken Quesadillas I had. [2.3/5]

Tres Tacos [27AED]: This might have been a little better than the burrito and nachos, however less tasty than the nachos. Im so confused. You can pick the kind of tacos you want, soft or crispy corn tortilla, with your choice of meat, filled with salsa, cheese/ sour cream and shredded lettuce. You can also choose flour tortillas instead. The tacos were decent and they come in threes. We choose two beef and one chicken taco. I quite liked the chicken tacos. Did not attain the authentic Mexican flavours though. [2.8/5]

All in all, I had a very disappointing experience at Tortillas. Their service was quick and the location was good. The food lacked in basic flavours.. let alone some authentic Mexican flavours. I really had high hopes. I’ll probably give this place one more try.. hopefully I would not be disappointed then 🙂
