Prax’s, Barsha Heights

Guest Foodie: Batul Ali

First up, thankyou Nikita Phulwani and Prax’s for the wonderful Friday lunch invite. I had an amazing time along with other bloggers indulging in some delectable and mouth watering Asian dishes.

I would not call Prax’s a chinese restaurant but a fusion of various Asian flavours. Yes, the menu may be small and compact but don’t let that fool you. I’ll tell you more about what I tried at their tasting but you should know that almost all their dishes stand out and are truly one of a kind.

Two things for me that stand out the most is 1) the fact that you can mix and match (customize) and create a main according to your taste and preference; 2) their portion sizes are huuuuuge! especially for what you’re paying and there is no way you can eat all that by yourself – I tried.

Ps. I love the fact that they present the food in take out boxes which according to me is kinda super fun and a convenient way of eating when on the go.

Ambiance: This branch in I-rise tower is much much much bigger than the Jumeira branch. You can almost never find yourself a seat to sit there. This branch is quite spacious, comfortable and well lit. It’s fun to peep into the kitchen and see these amazing chefs (who have a constant smile on 🙂 ) cook up your meal.

Service: The service is very prompt and they keep asking you if there is something that you need or that they can help you with.

Price: Like I mentioned, the price is very moderate and the quantity that you get for that amount blows my mind.

What we ate:

Chicken Sui Mai [16AED] and Prawn Har Gow [22AED]: I am a big fan of dim sums, so you know I’m going to love these for starters. However I do normally like chicken dim sums more than vegetable or even prawns. The two dips, soya sauce and the chilli sauce went so well with these dim sums. Have it when its hot, as they might get a bit hard to eat when a bit colder.

Prawn Spring Roll [18AED]: As sea food, my favourite are Prawns. These prawn spring rolls were delicious! Crunchy and flavour packed! Again, the chilli sauce went perfectly well with these.

Papaya Salad [16AED]: The papaya salad unfortunately failed to ‘wow’ me. I did not find any prominent flavours in the salad and felt like I was having just plain grated papaya. Our server had asked me if I would like some fish sauce to go with my salad, I declined, so maybe the salad would have tasted much better with the sauce in.

Prax’s Mushroom Dynamite [18AED] and Prax’s Shrimp Dynamite [24AED]: So this was one of the things that stood out the most for me at Prax’s. I do not like mushrooms. At all. So I was shocked when I tried the Dynamite mushroom and I fell in love with them! The dynamite mushroom and Shrimps are so much like the PF Changs Dynamite and even better! The sauce was delicious and well coated and very very.. very filling! The Dynamite shrimps were big and juicy and quite a lot in quantity. I would suggest you try the Dynamite Mushroom without fail, you are bound to fall in instant love.

Mains: Egg Noodles [24AED] in chilli basil sauce with Chicken [+8AED] as the protein along with some baby corn, pineapple, broccoli, roasted peanuts and fried garlic. So I was very anxious about how my mains would come out since I decided going freestyle and customize my own main. And guess what? It was delicious! I loved the chilli basil base I went with. I wish I would have gone for some fried basil on the top as well. The smell and flavour of basil just takes your whole meal to the next level. I was pleasantly surprised as to how good the pineapple tasted in my dish. The roasted peanuts gave the whole dish a crunch and I absolutely loved it! There are plenty veggies in it and the portion can be easily shared by two!

Date and Caramel pudding [14AED]: From all the four desserts, this pudding was hands down my favourite. For some one who just does not like dates, I was very apprehensive about this dessert in particular. But please do try it. It is super creamy and mouth watering. I will be definitely going to Prax’s for this one for sure.

Coconut and Ginger: [14AED]: For coconut haters, you would wanna stay away from this. Me on the other hand, I love coconut in absolutely anything. This dessert was delicious especially with the mild hint of ginger. I have honestly never had something like this before.

Chocolate brownie with Raspberry Coulis [17AED]: Sadly this was my least least favourite dessert. The chocolate brownie was way too dark for my taste. An average person cannot handle this level of bitterness in chocolate. The combination of the brownie and raspberry coulis seemed interesting though.

Strawberry glazed sponge with Tres Leches [17AED]: This was one of the new things added to their menu and I couldn’t be happier. This dessert was mouth watering and I so wanted to have more helpings. I loved the strawberry syrup beneath the sponge and it just tasted so well as a whole.

Final Thoughts: You can sit here and read Prax’s reviews all day long but you have to actually go and try them out to believe me. I absolutely loved majority of their dishes and desserts. With a little tweaks here and there, I’m sure all there dishes on the menu would taste really amazing. I honestly cannot wait for my next visit to Prax’s.
