Special thanks to Mr. Rohan Gomes and Yellow Chilli for hosting a wonderful evening for me and my plus one.

Firstly can we talk about how convenient it is for us RTA users to travel and get to the Yellow Chilli Restaurant (Y.C.). It’s right outside the Burjuman Metro Station.

We were welcomed to our seats and were served with our drinks for the evening; Y.C.’s specialities:-

Strawberry Mojito [18AED]: Strawberry Mojito is my favourite when having to accompany with food. The drink was fresh with pieces of strawberry to bite on. The thing I liked about this was that it was not over sweetened by the sugar syrup and was just perfectly balanced.

Peru Pyala [18AED]: This drink was made out of guava juice lemon and mint with a hint of tabasco. The glass was rimmed with chilli. I quite liked the drink in the first couple of sips, it was different.. something I’ve never tried before. But later on as the time went by, the drink was quite warm and that’s when I did not quite like it. I would suggest the drink to be served really cold; but then that’s according to my liking.

A quick and small menu was curated for us so we jumped right into our starters. We were given two platters; veg and non veg platter. I personally loved the vegetarian starter platter more than the non – vegetarian one.

Veg starter platter comprised of; Hare Masaley ka Bhuna Paneer [32AED], Harippa Paneer Tikka [32AED], Shabnam ke Moti [32AED], Aloo Nazakat [26AED], Chana Jor Garam Tikki [30AED]. My favourites are listed below.

  1. Hare Masaley ka Bhuna Paneer: This starter was quite yummy. Pieces of paneer coated with the green masala tasted so well when accompanied by the green yogurt chutney. The paneer was soft yet a hint of crunchiness in each bite.
  2. Harippa Paneer Tikka: This was your generic paneer tikka with onions and tomatoes. Again, I’m a fan of paneer so I absolutely loved this starter.
  3. Aloo Nazakat: These were one of my favourites that night. This starter is basically peeled and hollow potatoes which are fried to perfection and then stuffed with nuts and sweet corn. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and sweetish on the inside. Did not expect to like this one so much.
  4. Chana Jor Garam Tikki: This was absolutely delicious! Deep fried aloo tikki which a generous coating of chick pea flakes. Have this hot and crunchy starter with some sweet mango chutney, pickle or some green yogurt chutney.

Non – veg starter comprised of; Tandoori Basil Prawns [59AED], Kali Mirch Methi Fish Tikka [49AED], Murgh Kasoori Boti [39AED], Chandi Kaliyan [39AED], Murgh Angar Bedgi [39AED]

  1. Murgh Kasoori Boti: One of my favourite non veg starters, this was pieces of chicken cooked in a tandoor. It was coated with kasoori methi, crushed black peppers and cooked to perfection. I loved this when paired with the sweet mango chutney.
  2. Tandoori basil prawns: I love the mere smell of basil leaves. Unfortunately I could not quite taste the basil on this one, but the prawns were delish none the less. The prawns were cooked with basil and were absolutely juicy and tasted best with some mint yogurt.

I did not like the Kali Mirch Methi Fish Tikka and was my least favourite of all the things I got to taste at Y.C.

Coming to the main course, they kept it short and simple; Lalla Mussa Dal [26AED], Paneer Taka Tak [32AED] and Murgh Survedaar [36AED].

  1. Lalla Mussa Dal: was pretty much a combination of black and green lentiles cooked together to make a perfect daal makhni. I love dal makhni and theirs were just delicious and super creamy as well. Thy also drizzled some ghee on the top and I fell in love. A must try.
  2. Paneer Taka Tak: This was quite passable. I normally like thick curries like this but the spices and salt was missing in this one. I really tried liking it – it was not terrible, but sadly could not leave a mark on us.
  3. Chicken Survedaar: This chicken curry was lip smackin’ good. The curry was the perfect consistency, the spices were on point and the chicken pieces were beautiful. I would however suggest them to check the salt on these dishes, tend to be on the lower side. Another must try chicken in a coriander and black pepper curry.

For the Naans we had the Pyaaz Mirch Ki Roti [5AED], Pudina Paratha [8AED], Basil Butter Naan [9AED] and Lasooni Naan [8AED].

My favourites were Pudina Paratha and Butter naan. Both were hot and went perfectly with our meal. However the thing with Garlic naan is that if you burn the garlic even a bit, there is a lasting burnt taste in your mouth for a very long time and that was my issue with this naan.

They have a variety of pulaos and biryani, however after such a crazy meal we opted for white basmati Rice.

For Desserts, they got us their newly added menu addition, Baked Yogurt [18AED] and Gulab E Gulkand [18AED]

Baked Yogurt was amaaazing! Its basically condensed milk, cream, yogurt all mixed together well and baked. You will then get this beautiful cheesecake like texture and taste and its honestly super delicious and you guys need to give it a try.

Gulab Jamun filled with gulkand however did not get in my good books. I have read alot about this dessert and was looking forward to tasting it. For starters it’s way too sweet for my liking. And I cannot really differentiate between the jamun and the gulkand (candied rose petals) 10 on 10 for the presentation thou!

We ended our meal with my friend having some tea and me having some filter coffee. Perfect end to a delicious meal. 🙂

Final Thoughts: I quite like this place keeping a few things I don’t like aside. The food is decent, the prices are decent. The place in itself is a little small but you won’t notice it after a while. The service was the best part. I see myself going back here again and trying a few other things that were recommended to me.
